Conformément à la réglementation communautaire (n° 1593/2000), tous les États-Membres (EM) de l'Union Européenne ont du mettre en place un système d'identification des parcelles agricoles. C'est une composante clé du Système intégré d’administration et de contrôle pour les aides agricoles liées à des surfaces (Integrated Administration and Control System, IACS).
